Amanda had charged her mobile phone battery at the restaurant, but hadn’t had the nerve to switch it on in the Brown’s company, for fear of Harry calling her and one of her employers getting involved, then maybe discovering some things about her that they would no doubt disapprove of. Entering the college, she pressed the ‘power’ button and the screen flashed on. Within moments, a couple of missed calls and messages appeared on the display, all from Mark, who at that point, was one of the last people she wanted to talk to.
She arrived in the classroom and saw her usual crowd sat towards the back of the room but chose to sit down on the front row of desks, by the door and on her own. Mark noticed this snub then stood up, and just as he was about to go and confront Amanda and see what the problem was, the teacher walked into the room and the lesson commenced.
It was only a two hour lesson at college that day, and as the teacher signalled the end of class, Amanda packed up her things as quickly as she could and made her way out of the room. Only when she was halfway down the corridor did she hear the heavy footsteps of Mark running after her, and then she felt the grip of his hand around her arm.
‘Where are you going?’ he asked, ‘what’s the hurry?’
‘I’m busy, Mark,’ she said, ‘I’ve got to get to work.’
‘But I’ve got that stuff for you,’ Mark insisted, whilst blocking her path as she tried to step around him.
Amanda explained that she no longer wanted the cocaine, that the money was gone and it was the night before that she had needed it, not now before she was about to go to work at the restaurant.
‘It doesn’t work like that,’ Mark said, ‘you ordered it, and I got it. So now you gotta take it, and you gotta pay me.’
Amanda thought for a moment about running away, pushing past him and making her escape, hoping that he’d let her go and tomorrow it would all be forgotten and that maybe they’d both laugh about it. But she knew better than that. She’d been living with a bully up until the day before, and she knew that running away wasn’t an option. She’d run away from Spike, then she found Harry. She ran away from Harry, and now Mark stood before her. She couldn’t run forever.
Mark told her that this time he wanted to go all the way, that a hand job and some quick head wasn’t enough for all the trouble he went through to get the cocaine on such short notice. And Amanda had no money, so what could she do?
She led Mark into the toilet cubicle, their usual spot for touching and feeling each other. She closed the door behind her, locked it and dropped her bag to the floor. Then she grabbed at Mark’s belt buckle, opened it up and tugged down his jeans.
